Supply Chain Act: How digital solutions from SLOC protect people and the environment

The German Supply Chain Duty of Care Act (also known as the Supply Chain Act) obliges companies to adapt their processes along their entire value chain to the legal requirements in order to protect the environment and uphold human rights. This also increases consumer expectations that companies will act carefully and sustainably.

  • Companies must ensure that they act responsibly at all stages of their supply chain – from the raw materials to the final sales product.
  • The requirements vary depending on the position in the supply chain: in the company’s own business unit, with direct suppliers and with indirect suppliers.
  • Factors such as the type of business activity, the company’s influence on possible violations, the expected severity of the violations and the nature of the contribution to the violations are taken into account.

WHAT ARE COMPANIES OBLIGED TO?

from January 01, 2024

The Supply Chain Law applies to companies with at least 1,000 employees in Germany.

Why does this law also effect Austrian companies?

For companies that are not based in Germany and are, for example, suppliers to a directly affected company, there is the possibility of indirect applicability of the law, regardless of the number of employees. The directly affected companies (with registered office, head office, etc. and a corresponding number of employees in Germany) are obliged to ensure compliance with the statutory provisions throughout their entire supply chain.
